King's old boys showed that class is permanent as they led King's Macclesfield to victory in their annual derby match against Old Stopfordians.

Former architect Mike Hyde aged 85 and former Head of Sixth Form and Cricket Ian Wilson (77) led King's home with 36 and 33 points respectively. Also in the frame was property developer Rob Oehlcke (54) with another cleverly constructed 36 points.

Played in glorious conditions at the scenic Knutsford Golf Course, a nine-hole parkland gem, King's were desperate to win back the cup after missing out last year to Andy Roberts' Stockport sluggers.

Roberts (33), former athlete John Reeves (35) and the wise cracking Ian Hall (28) fought tooth and nail but were undone by the tough challenge set by the Macc' lads.

Former pupils from King's Macclesfield and Stockport Grammar have been vying for this golfing honour since the 1960s, but are now looking for more new players to take up the reins!

Organiser Ian Wilson, who also stages other former pupils' events in beautiful courses across the county and beyond, said: "It is an immensely enjoyable day, played in good humour but also with deadly seriousness. It's wonderful to meetup with old friends and old boys and girls are warmly welcomed to all forthcoming events."

Andy Roberts said: "Ian is a true gentleman who evened up the odds by allowing the best three scores from a team of four. We look forward to the next encounter and will be redoubling our efforts."
