John Cannon was born on the 21st July 1930 and sadly passed away on the 3rd January 2021 following a short illness. He was a very keen supporter of King's and always took an interest in the new development of the school. Having taken up one of the first free places bought up by Cheshire Council in the early 40s, John always valued educational opportunity very highly. He also kept in touch with many of his school friends to the end of their lives. John's memory remained phenomenal to the very end, and he was able to spend the last three months at home with wonderful carersand the family, investigating all his papers and treasures, and reminiscing - which was absolutely fascinating. 

John was a retired dental surgeon, chess impresario, local historian (Horsham) and collector, Gilbert & Sullivan and Savoy Opera ephemera expert, national archivist, photographer and presenter of charity lecture slideshows. His family said: "John will be remembered as a kind and respected gentleman, with a great rapport for people and huge drive and energy for his various interests. He was a hugely supportive family man; he made a formidable team with Brenda, and was heavily involved with the lives of his children and grandchildren, and with Brenda at his side for over 64 years, he has lived life to the full."
